Hi,
I'm going to tile my bathroom soon but need some advice on the walls.
Last year I had the whole room replasterd and the plaster told me to paint the new plaster with new plaster paint and then 2 coats of watered down emulsion.

he knew it was to be tiled but reading up on this everyone seems to say take the paint off.

so do I take the paint off? Score the walls, put adhesive on or just tile?

the tiles are ceramic and are 40x30cm so I know I have to use powder not premix.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks

That paint has to come off.
You tile those walls the way they are then it's the paint that's holding the tiles in place.

If the paint has not formed a surface skin , as a mist coat will not , then you can prime and tile.

I had the same problem (emulsioned walls) in my bathroom. It came off easy with a steamer/scraper, then i just roughed up anything left with some very coarse sandpaper. Sheet up though as it gets very messy!

sir ramic posted a pic not long ago where he came across a painted wall to be tiled.... bucket and sponge on the side of the bath with nothing but white smudge marks left on the wall... job done lol
