Depth Of Slc Over Heat Mat System

Hi

Im going to be laying a UFH mat by Heat Mat, in their instructions it says to have at least 8mm of SLC above the wire. Should I do that or will just having wires completely covered be fine?

I don't think I've ever put that much down over UFH, normally 2-3mm

I normally allow 2 m2 per 20 kg bag..

It will state in the pdf of your choice of slc , the minimum depth required , some say deeper over timber floors ..

But If your heat mat says 8mm , then isnt that your answer... 🙂

But why do most people only just cover the UFH then and not go thicker? Thats why I asked.

I'd normally go 2-3mm over cables Sharon, coupled up with a solid bed of adhesive using a 10mm trowel wiggled down to a 5mm solid bed you've got 8mm coverage there.

Ahh ok , i always go no less than 6mm , but depends on slc ..

I'll be laying mosaics so wont be using an 8mm trowel lol.

Always put down between 6-8 mm.
Webber floor flex states 10mm min over timber.
For mosaic i always do two layers as the second only a couple of mm and rolled out with the pin roller

I'm using Weber Floor Flex. How long do you wait before you put down second layer?

When it's OK to walk on Sharon , depending on the version , one sets in 90 mins and the other 2-4 hrs. Don't forget floor flex is 10mm on timber.

Mix in 2 smaller batches or in one tub and split into another for carrying upstairs

I always let it dry over night and prime between coats.
Put a board over the wire and knock up on that in the room. Dont forget clean water and a sponge for any splashing

It's so annoying there's a nice flat floor lovely for mosaics but the customer is having UFH. Poo 🙁.

The newer version of floor flex sets in 90 mins and they have another new slc that sets in 45-60 mins.. Rapid floor i think its called.
