I used to have 2 adverts on yell.com, one was paid for and one was a free listing and both were advertising under different company names, I found that every cold caller I got was asking for the company name i had as a free listing. this tells me that they're not just pulling the names from yell.com but yell must be selling the details of every free listing to these people but not the details from the paid adverts. You don't get nowt for free!

I am considering adding my website details to yells pay per click scheme, have you had much response to your yell advert? I was going to pay to be near the top of search results in my area?

I think a lot of people will use yell and would like to see a nice website with a portfolio but would be happy to hear from anyone with experience of paying for yell advertising?

Yellow Partnership based in Manchester.

Had a couple of calls from them thanking me for my advert in their 'charity' publication. They said the charity was to help stop child abuse.

I new I'd never agreed to any advertising with them and this was just a scam to try and get money out of me so told em to ( DO NOT SWEAR ) once I'd elicited their full company details from them.

These details have been passed onto the Police and Charities Commission with full details of my conversations with them.

If anyone get's any of these phone calls it's a good idea to try and get as many company details as poss out of them to enable you to pass these on to the relevant authorities. From my conversations with the police about them it seems they are treading a very fine line in terms of criminal offences they may be committing.

I know it's a ball ache but it is very worthwhile taking the time to complain to the Police/trading standards/charites commission as the more people complain, the more is likely to be done about them. After all, they are taking money that should be going to genuine/bonafide charities.

I had a cold call from EMS in Warrington....to "set up a website for me and promote my business" etc....What they promised and what I got were two totally different things. And two totally different prices.
They called me to offer an update (Caching £ !) to push my site further...and it hadnt even been built yet. I asked for a full refund and was told the cooling off period was up that day ! No cooling off period was written anywhere...Anyway...a call to trading standards and a recorded delivery carefully worded letter and I got my full refund....as a gesture of goodwill......

Keep at it lads.

You'd have thought if a guy is sitting there and thinks hmmmmm I can make some money doing this, and then puts all that effort into it, and then in the end it just gets a bad rep and a name change or whatever and starts again: surely that guy could be quite good at doing a few things, therefore what are they doing cold-calling people and attempting to rob them???

It does my nut in thinking about it, the few I get regret calling me I'm sure - I end up trying to give advice where it's not sinking in and they sort of get a taste of what they're dishing out, though without the bill for nothing at the end of it.

I got one for a year, a nice one at the top of the list, didnt go for the web-link tho and it didnt really work, got a few jobs and probably made a bit more money than the advert costs but not enough so it wasnt worth the effort, dont have one now.
