Hi, Im looking for any tips on how go acheive a clean cut around a window where the tile and trim butt. At the moment when ive cut the tile around the window when i place the trim up against it sometimes 1. the cut isnt perfectly straight and 2. Almost always has very small chips where the wet saw has cut, so there can look like a small gaps in between the two. Isit best to have grout or silicone between the cut tile and the trim so it looks solid and finished well ???

:stupid:

When I place my trim I use adhesive behind the trim to stick it.

As for your cutting the dog leg I think you mean, then cut the line straight at the right angle, and as for chipping, then try a better cutting wheel.

do you scribe your cuts before wet cutting ?sounds as if you need a better quality blade on your wet saw, in this country tilers tend to butt the trim against the tile this is poor practice it is better to leave a small joint to the trim so you can get some grout in the joint between the tile and the trim

Ah so i should be leaving a small joint between the tile and trim then using grout as per normal, will the grout not crack being in between the tile and a plastic trim?

And have u guys any sugestions on a good 150mm blade ( id Rather clean cuts than fast cuts) because if the tiles still chipped at the cut then even if i grout it will still look gash eh so i think a good blades a must .

I do scribe too

cheers

Not the amount of grout you will be putting in. The gap shouldn't be huge. Certainly no bigger than your grout line and I would look for as little as possible, say 1mm.

when the joint is too tight to the trim the grout tends to fall out schluter designed trile trim to give the correct gap which is 2mm i know many tilers butt the trim and 90% of the time this is okay i agree the gap shouldnt be too big as this looks unsightly

before you make your cut on the wet saw score the cut line with a dry cutter if possible this will help you to get each cut equally sized and straight, then with a good quality blade and plenty of water the cut should be perfect. as for a grout joint between the tile and trim, with plenty of addy behind the trim you will be able to butt the two together and that will make an approx 1mm gap which when filed with grout will be fine.

what u need to do is score the tile and wet cut it at 45% then snap both pieces with your dry cuter stops the chips :pete
