I can't honestly remember, but I know I could go for a beer whenever I liked and had some cash in my wallet....

Twenty years ago I was working for the ordnance survey as a digital cartographer subbing to Yorkshire water in bradford as a field research analyst Living in a Pub paid for by them. Cant remember how much i was earning....but i do remember that i spent all my expenses on beer.

I was working for AT Overton having just completed 5 years training and was commanding the princely sum of £5.50p per yard and was taking home £500.00-£600.00 per week

I was doing the power vibro floors back then earning £1,100.00 plus per week. I bet the guys doing them now are not earning that kind of money.

20 tears ago i first walked on too a site a young niave boy,, got the **** took out of me by old veterans of the building game. Had to go up two planks with a wheel barrow full to the neck of concrete,, got up halfway , couldnt get a grip with my feet on the two slippy planks so i let the bugger go overboard,, I can still hear the laughs. GOT paid a pittance for that job too.

20 years ago I was earning £2.00 an hour collecting eggs on a chicken farm. It was only at weekends though as I was still at school:yikes:

That was good money then mark, just seen a job on jobrapido in dublin, big contract 8 euros a meter.

Doesnt seem alot mark 8 euros a meter and there looking for a qualified tiler, a sign of things to come. Guessed you did a bit in plastering from your posts , mixing the skim with a 2be1 lath gave it away. lol.

I was only a toddler then but it was the height of the troubles here and I know that some tilers doing security work were clearing over £1000 a week in the army camps.

Why would they use private security in the camps ?????

Was making good dosh on the barracks sites about 2004-2005. bag a sand a week record was £1400 clear. No chance of that on site now or doubt it will ever come back round again.

Security work as in doing work for the security forces and British Army. Highly paid work because there was a risk of being ambushed to and from barracks. A squad of painters were murdered on their way home from a job on an army camp.

20 years ago - I had hair (no I didn't) - but I had a beard that counts.
What does it matter how much we got paid, it's supply and demand, and for those who have the interest the demand will return and we will all appreciate it more.
When it does, pay off the bills, refuse credit and pay for only what you can afford.
That way you'll enjoy the work and the rest takes care of itself.
Right I'am off tomorrow - pension day.
