It has kept me up scratching my head for a while and thought id best ease my worries by asking you guys.
Laying down an underfloor heating mat-then the next step is obviously to lay the tiles, but having always used batons to start from, how on earth do i do this with a heating mat underneath!!??:mad2::mad2:

Only thought would to screw in the baton, but obviously avoid screwing into the wires, but would i not then run the risk of breaking the wires with the baton pressure?

Easy, dont use a batten. Just run your tiles along your datum line and use a straight edge to keep them in line. Don't really need battens for floors as gravity is not a concern.

oh right-so even just a spirit level with a box of tiles resting on top of them to keep them as straight as can be? So, when doing a floor as long as its not the most obvious slant, the floor should always look alright(not running off as per a wall would do?)

i lost my chalk line about 2 years ago:stupid:, so in a small area ,i either choose a long straight wall to work from, or mark a line on the floor with pencil after some basic measuring. and in a big area i use a piece of string like a builders line and work from that.
