1200x600x10mm porc on walls - Tile Advice

I have never tiled a wall with anything bigger than 50x50cm porc., and have been putting it off since before Christmas. Any tips on tiling around my shower tray? Only 14 pieces portrait, 2 high, and the lower one will be cut down to 1000x600wide.

make sure the prep is up to standard. you want a nice flat and plumb surface for big tiles.

Porcelain is porcelain, if they’re 10mm, then no different.
10mm on wall, 6mm on tile, trowel all the same way across shortest distance on wall and tile.
Bed in well.
You might find a suction cup would help with handling them.

What do you mean by '6mm on tile' ? I would normally back butter, are you suggesting more than just a thin coat?

Question , why 10 mm then 6mm as opposed to 8mm and 8mm . Same bed thickness but use of only one trowel.
Is there something I'm missing .

You need the notches to be staggered. Not lined up or offset which won’t give the desired depth adhesive or willl often be different for each tile.

So to be sure, you're saying 6mm trowel on back of tile but in the same direction as the wall?

Yes. Personally I’d use this trowel on a tile that size. Possibly a tiger towel. You need to look at the two trowels you use and see how they might behave when put together.

I’m more talking about if the ridges happen to line up perfectly or not line up perfectly. It’s not very consistent. Two different trowel notches will naturally be staggered every time and in my experience will bed down better. Being honest though, it’s unlikely to really matter. A nice wet mix and as you say, collapsing the notches.

To the OP- as always, pry a tile off after it’s bedded in and see what you have.

Not much on Tiger trowels. Are they new? Do they work? I have a trowel with diagonal notches. But I only bought that because it was a Raimondi, (I think).

It’s not a size of tile I have fitted either. Interesting post. Do you mean when trowelling you would go across the wall when trowelling rather than top to bottom?
