Discuss Working away from home... how much more do you charge? in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.
If the customer is happy for you to travel, then charge for petrol and time, if stopping over then B&B, plus evening meals plus inconvenience for having to stay over....this should all be negotiated with the customer.....GazIf any of you work away, how do you charge for it?
Do you just add expenses, or do you also look for a premium, either per metre or per night, on top of your normal rates?
£50 dosn't seem unreasonable to me, you are not doing it for profit, just as an incovenience thing, they should be happy and agree....GazThe job was in a Hotel, so meals and B&B were covered by them.
I was working for a company I do work for all the time.
I agreed a days rate for driving there and the same for driving back, best part of 7 hours each way, plus petrol.
I also agreed to do it for normal rate plus what ever they were paying their guys, plumber and joiner, per night.
But it turns out that they were on a price, not their normal day rate plus extra as I thought.
It works out the have more than doubled their weekly wage whilst away though.
I'm not looking for anything like that though. Just wondering what you guys thought is reasonable to ask for, for being away overnight for 5 nights.
I was thinking of 50-60 per night.
Too much, not enough??
I did take a risk though.Hi Drew i work away quite a lot i would expect to pay my guys about 30% more in that situation if you had agreed to do it on a price and lost money like the plummer could have done if things had gone wrong, as you didn't take that risk you can`t expect to earn what they did IMO :best regards Pete
That is just one of the problems working for a firm, always get price sorted before work starts and this situation wont arise.Look after yourself and dont bother about plumbers joiners etc.I hope you dont det short changed Drew and you get whats due.
The job isn't even halfway finished yet, so they'll have to meet my demands or I wont be back.See what you mean Drew you will know next time mate always be fair but your price should have been perhaps £3-£4 meter more for the inconvenience
