Hi there,

This weekend I am due to start on my first tiling job in the kitchen of my house. I have been looking at Tile Trim, which I know I will need to create a border at doorways to other rooms and other floor coverings!

I am looking at the Homelux "rounded" type trim which seem to come in 9mm and 12.5mm sizes. I am guessing for my tiles I would need to go for the 12.5mm?

The Tiles I am using are Porcelain (Luna from Homebase) 40cm x 40cm and 9.5mm thick. I really don't have a clue about this - the sign in Homebase recommends a 10mm one, however I have only ever found these in the "square" design.

In terms of adhesive I plan to use Granfix Ultimateflex with a thickness of 6mm.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi and welcome:thumbsup:

The trim you talk of is for walls not between different floor surfaces, the trim you need is a transition trim for floors

Welcome along to the forum. You shouldn't be using trim in doorways you should be using threshold strips that are designed for this purpose. Also you should be using a minimum of 10mm trowel to put your adhesive down with.

Thank you all for your kind replies.

No problem - I haven't got the trowel yet so I can quite easily get the 10mm one - thanks for the advice.

I will have a look on the net for those threshold strips - sounds just what I need. I have to find threshold strips to take me to vinyl tiles, carpet and also an area of metal chequer plate!
