I'd be more concerned if they were doing it at £14/sq mt!
Thats not to say the tiler/ approved tradesman is getting anywhere near that.
Be good to hear from anyone doing this work.

I know someone who works for bnq and he said tiler gets half the labour costs. So probably 15pm at least. Rip off in my eyes

Someone sent me the email with prices. Someone on here. Wasnt worth getting out of bed for.

This is positive surely? B&Q get so much foot traffic, maybe customers might not be so jumpy at independent fixer quotes.

Among a lot of my private work I have recently secured fixing contracts with a local high end builder at £30.00psm fixing only (materials, sealing, grouting and prep all extra).
More relevent to the topic though, im regularly subbing to a company that does the homebase installs for £150.00 day rate plus materials. Both I think are pretty good rates for non-private work.

Totally agree dave, poor old customers getting quoted a from £39m2 price just for fixing a run off the mill basic ceramic tile, by a kitchen fitter or similar ! Can only mean more people thinking jekers that's not cheap I'll give a trusted tiler a call , and get him to do it for half the price!!!

I never quote a kitchen splashback by the square meter- its almost never that simple. For starters its rarely more than 5sqm and often a lot less. A clean surface exists in less than 3 out of 10 kitchen walls - invariably requires repairs of some kind. There are usually half a dozen electrical plates to unscrew, tile around and refix (often with new longer screws). Most wood/laminate worktops are not fixed level. The wall cupboards are invariably spaced at awkward levels (e.g. 510mm) above the worktop and the window ledge is 108mm above the worktop. Rofl.

Yet I am often astounded to find the 'kitchen unit fitters' quoting a customer £300 for a splashback that is 3sqm. So I guess BnQ is cheap at £39/sqm! I nearly always charge the customer my day rate for 1 day, plus £30 for all additional materials (addy/grout/Silicon/trims). There is a school of thought I have seen posted on here that domestic work should all be quoted at day rates - like plasterers and decorators charge for domestic customers - and sq m rates should be left to the commercial work. I think that's a view that has a lot of merits.

If Homebase are charging the same rates then they lost money on me the other week. 3sqm of metros. Dayrate plus materials.

But as you say, I had 5 fuse spurs, 1 cooker control unit, a double socket and the pipes in the corner to navigate round! On a run that couldn't be any more than 8'

It ain't cheap for a domestic 8m2 shower with no mosaic , or border! Nor is it cheap for a 20m2 kitchen floor , even if their is A few hours self levelling to be done! I'd feel I was committing day light robbery IMO
