Just pricing up my own ensuite. The quote includes a 'tile safe' tanking kit - £300 and flexi wall membrane 8kg - £60

I don't mind the cost if it's worth it, but just want to check with those in the know if this stuff is good & worth the £360? Are there any brands you would recommend? Or am I missing something, is this 'tile safe' superior than others?

Cheers again!

Schluter Kerdi or Impey waterguard are my two preferred membranes. If it is the old Impey tile safe it is not very user friendly. It earned it' nickname 'devils flypaper' a good few years ago for good reason

Ripped the knees out of a couple of work trousers working with that stuff.

it's not listed as an Impey , there's no brand mentioned, I'll ask tomorrow. I guess if it is an Impey I should use it?

It's a modular system so made up of 2 wedgeboards, infill panels & a channel drain. I'm not aware that Impey manufacturer the modular systems but may be wrong!

I don't mind paying for good quality stuff but not £360 if it's not the best! What would you usually expect to pay for 5m2 of tanking membrane kit?

Cheers again

Yup, it's the old Devil's flypaper.
DO NOT USE IT!

This is what happens:

It's bitumen based (tar) so it's soft.
Tiles (eventually) start to move/slip/slide on the soft bitumen and then it fails.
The above example was assisted by the underfloor heating REALLY softening the bitumen.

I know it worked on Noah's ark, but that was over 4000 years ago.
Trust me, bitumen has no place in bathroom waterproofing.

Well and truly put off now!

Can someone please recommend a kit that has a self adhesive membrane please?

Sorry, my mistake.

Am I understanding this correctly

Paint on systems are gum based
Self adhesive membranes are bitumen based

So I should stay away from self adhesive membranes full stop?

Am I getting this?!
