When i joined the my local running club another guy started at the same time as me...we got talking about work etc and his business is engraving. I thought medals, cups etc general stuff. He is a keen cyclist and i called round to see him today at his house to get something for my bike. He showed me a job he is doing at the moment..I was blown away he was making a face for a grandfather clock, it was totally amazing the detail etc. He does it all by hand. He said this is the type of jobs he does all the time. This job is a commision he was just doing, the clock face and the pendulum only. The said the clock is costing £100,00.00 and it is for a canadian family.

I have an acquaintance who has been buying clocks and barometers for a number of years, he has some in bank vaults that he's not even seen for over 30 years. He's always restored them himself and it wasn't even his profession, just a hobby. He's a bit of a King Midas and has a good eye for bargains, or other peoples gullability!!! He's never let on to me how much they are worth but let's just say he's a regular visitor to the 3 big auction houses darn sarf. If I had to guess we'd be in the seven figure bracket what they are worth.

Nice work to be at, Iv been working on a job lately where an artist was working in too and a woman gold leafing bedroom furniture etc.
It's nice to see other trades at work and them who do a bit different.

I've just done a job for a surgeon, and he didn't bring his work home with him. Now that's a skill. I said to him I wanted to be a surgeon but the tolerances were far too great for my liking, so I went into tiling!!!!
