Hi folks.

I need to box-in the pipes the run around the perimiter of my bathroom floor.

I was thinking of using No-more Nails to stick 2x4 treated timber to the floor, and then screw ply into this to act as the top. These surfaces will then be tiled in the same tiles as the floor.

A few questions:

1) Is this a fairly suitable way of boxing in or are their better ways? How do the Pro's do it ?
2) How should the rough-sawn timber and Ply be prepared, ready to accept tile adhesive ?

Regards

personally i would screw the timber down 50mm x50mm should be fine and i would sheet it with either hardiebacker or plasterboard:thumbsup:

Thanks guys,

I needed 2 x 4 as the pipes are quite high-up, that's all. Gonna be a big box

So, screw Hardibacker vertically to the 2x4 before tiling, and also use lengths horizontally in place of the ply too ?

Regards

Hi Pete

I used plasterboard to create my boxing in (and some of it was very creative as we ended up boxing in a load of pipes that the house builders couldn't be bothered to do)
but hardibacker will work just as well as plasterboard.

Davids right no more nails wont stay stuck. there are mastics that will. sticks like sht will but I would still drill and screw for security

hardie still needs supporting with noggins the same as plasterboard

another alternative is marmox, they do a pre formed boxing in section which can be cut to size, it is quite pricey but saves time and any nonsense cutting hardibacker....

hardie for me too. I normally run a bead of paratan along the length of timber and then screw it to the deck:thumbsup:
