Possibilities For Underfloor Heating Over Marine Ply

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Evening,

I am doing a job for a customer which i have been dreading!!!. Tilling the floor of their ensuite loft room bathroom. The loft room has been recently built, and has been boarded with marine ply. My plan is to screw the ply every 100mm along each joist, (joist centres are 300m). I was then going to use Ditra or Dural matting over the marine ply, to stop any cracking from movement. Then tile over the top of this with max fibre flexible tile adhesive. However I'm going to throw some underfloor heating into the mix. Now the big question, do i just put the warmup matt down, self level over, then fit the Ditra/Dural matting as explained. Or do i get the Ditra heat matting, which combines the underfloor heating and the decoupling matt, then tile straight over the top? I have only ever laid underfloor heating and then self levelled over the top. However as this is a new loft conversion I'm concerned about movement as you can imagine. Sorry for waffling on 🙂 I hope this makes sense, and i look forward to seeing what ways other people would tackle it.

i think given the nature of the construction you would be well advised to check the floor for any bounce or deflection due to the joists moving. No amount of ditra or flexible grout will save you from that.
