To be honest i cant relie on tiling as a main income...one week £600 the next week £300 and nothing the week after that and so on...sad really but its going to get worse before it gets better..going to keep it on as a sideline doing small jobs..

Like Ninja, i'm only a part timer, and only just getting going really, so it's not effecting me in that respect, but, my missus works for persimmon, hasn't sold a house for 4 months, lots want to buy but cant get a mortgage, (or can get a mortgage at some ridiculous rate, so it's not affordable).

So it effects me that way because she relies largley on commission. We were supposed to move house on tuesday gone, but have had to withdraw and stay put because with her not getting any commision, and other bills going up week on week, we'd have had no money left in the pot to do anything.

On the plus side, at least now I can afford to buy the tools etc, I wanted, and maybe even a van.

Am doing it full time oli but looking for a job at the same time am in a catch22 situation i want to tile full time but am not making it pay and thats taking the enjoyment out of it...

Just picked up two £750 jobs after nothing for a few weeks. seems to be picking up, lots of quotes.................

just getting back into advertising my services. not got any quotes yet though. a mate of mine might have a bathroom to do next week which would be nice cos ive not tiled for 3 month

I'm neither busy or quiet (compared to last year)

I would put "the same"

IE business as usual.

Sorry mate, i misread your post,

I took it to mean that you already did it as a sideline, not that your were keeping it on as a sideline.

Best of luck in any case.

The new build sector has dried up its like someone turned the tap off. but private sector is going wild at mo also housing associations and council remods all keeps wolves at bay. looking at a couple of months at the minute fingers crossed it keeps coming in.

How about a "ticking over" option Dave ?, or steady, which would be between busy and quiet

Right I've gone for small amounts, but I hardly advertise really and I had to clear my jobs I had booked when I sliced my thumb and they didn't want to wait, but now I have a couple of jobs in the pipeline, but phone isn't ringing off the hook, but as I said, I hardly advertise.

had my busiest year yet but i am not sure whats in store for me next year lol not sure i can vote

in 10 years of self employment this is my worst year to date, i do a lot of site work and work for interior designers both have mothballed projects, ive had lots of calls from other tilers i know asking for work but ive got very little myself

im a contractor and had 6 lads last year down to one now an hes had enough hes going taxying...its looking grim in manchester

business as usual for me , but i wouldnt like to be starting out as a tiler right now.. been talking to staff in some local tile shops, things are slow for them but what i noticed was the sheer volume of tile cards on the counters, and seemingly a lot of them havent a clue either according to the staff, one shop has even put up a disclaimer , not accepting any responsibility for work done from these cards.. seems everybody and their granny thinks its easy to be a self employed tiler but they are in for a fright !! hope i ve not put any new tiler on this forum off too much if your good and committed you should get there ...

im busier than i have ever been. booked up for a couple of months and more quotes to go look at. just got a young lad from college for 3 months to get his nvq so he should come in handy

just started advertising and done a few leaflet drops....done a few estimates just waiting for the phone to ring.

keeping busy with housing assosiation work at mo prob got 4 weeks left of contract private work dead have ads in all the time not many enquires kithen walls thats it.
