Hello,
I am installing some roof tiles and the roof is at the plywood stage. I am gettiing conflicting installation procedures on how to prep the roof for the clay tiles.
I live in the caribbean on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands where hurricanes are a potential hazard.
One contractor says to waterproof the roof, WELL, by taping the seams between the sheet of plywood and put flashing on the joints. So, if a storm passes through and a couple of tiles fly off the inside of the house still ok.
He also said to put two coats of a rubberize elastomeric paint on the roof, then put tar paper with the sticky stuff on one side over the painted roof and then install the purlins on the roof to accept the clay roof tiles.
What is the proper procedure to put the clay tiles on a roof?
Any help would be appreciated.
