This project was a technical request from a customer on how to put a hole into a tile high up in a bathroom
on tiles that had already been installed (fixed to the wall).

He wanted to know how he could drill so high up on the bathroom wall.

Hello 365,

I have to install a new 100mm vent fan in bathroom that has heavy ceramic tiles up to top of all the walls.

This vent fan needs to be located within 200mm of ceiling in a shower cubicle.

Your website shows the larger diameter cutters being used in a stand – which is impossible against the vertical surface high up the wall.

Do you have any products that could do this?

Many thanks

Short answer (you will be pleased to know) is that with our diamond cores you CAN achieve this.

Check out how to secure a piece of plasterboard to the wall prior to drilling.

Once the plasterboard template is secure and batoned then you have a precut hole
ready to start drilling a hole into the tile.

Our larger diamond core drills of sizes 95mm 100mm 105mm 110mm 115mm 120mm 125mm holesaws drill bits
can all make perfect holes into large format porcelain or ceramic tiles.

If you cant get a steady flow of water to the drill site at such a height we
supply cool water sponges which deliver water if you press against them.

The water sponge may drip water down your arm (it can feel uncomfortable)
But it will also deliver the water to a verticle tile plane. In this photo
the water even is being used upside down to create a hole in a tile !

Prior to fixing the plasterboard with batons you can precut the hole. In plasterboard it takes seconds.
Heres what a large hole at 100mm looks like going into plasterboard.
Now you have the perfect template.

Here the plasterboard has been removed from the tile so that you can see the diamond core
is starting to bite into the tile. Once the depth is more than 3mm you can remove it.
But we advice you keep it in place "just in case"

115mm.jpg

All of our diamond crowns and holesaws are priced between £30 and £60 so good value for money.

The best size (universal) is the 115mm which cuts large holes for soil stacks at 4" and also extract fans.
