How many guys tile over chipboard floor?

Hey folks,

Just wanted to ask how many of guys have tiled over chipboard and been in the game long enough to honestly say there have been no comebacks.

I know some adhesives are meant to be suitable e.g. Mapei Kerraquick with the latex plus. I have never done this as I feel very cuatious about tiling over chipboard without ply sheeting first so I am very interested to hear about other peoples experiences in doing this.

No offence to anyone but I would rather get feedback from people who have done this using leading brands such as Mapei, Ardex, weber & BAL etc

I did one 9 years ago for a friends parents in a bathroom I fitted, I went back earlier this year to sort out a shower valve and the floor was sound as a pound. I have no idea what adhesive I used but back then I was using Granfix so could have been that. I should add it was the green moisture resistant contract flooring

Just thought I should add that there would be no judgement on my part against anyoneone who does this often. Big companys spend hundreds of thousands every year researching this and if they reccomend a product for it then there must be some evidence that this can be done.

I've used P,C,I Pecilastic membrane, over chipboard then tiled onto that.

Fair enough. I personally don't have a problem, but I only asked is the public forum the right place to air ones mistakes? Why should you let 'joe public' know that such thing do or have happened in the past?

Well it is a public forum as well.


Not realy a mistake if manufacturers such as Mapei reccomend products for such purposes. If anyone wants to mention issues they have had then thats welcome.

I just want as many answers/ experiences as possible.
