tiling a kitchen splash-back soon but where the extractor is there is shinny hardboard the rest is plaster , i wouldn't normally tile on hardboard but the extractor has already been installed, so can't really take it off and put up plaster board ,so was wondering if i would get away with priming the hardboard then tiling it ? tiles will be ceramic ?

Can't you use a fein or bosch 180 to cut it awy at the edge of the extractor then plasterboard it.
