Giving new tilers false hope?

Jonsey7....... there is no way anyone can learn everything on a 4 week course and i think you must be the MUPPET if you think any of the guys on here were expecting too. Most of the lads on here (including myself) have done one of these courses and it is true to say that none of us would confidently walk into a shopping centre and be able to run the job to the standard of a TIME SERVED tiler, but that is the only thing that seperates experience from inexperience because most of us after a short while would be every bit as capable as yourself at pulling out a top notch job.

The only other difference between you time served lot and us newcomers is our attitudes, you will not find a single newbie tiler on here acting as if he knows it all already, instead you will find that at the absolute very top of all of our lists is QUALITY, CUSTOMER SATISTFACTION, REPUTATION, ENJOYMENT and this is something that a lot of so called pro tilers have forgotten all about. (Gaz, DH, Dan and all the other experinced tilers on here it who's advise and guidence is very valued, it goes without saying that you are NOT included in this)

I have met a few tilers like yourself who's tiling ability is superb but your work ethic and attitude sucks and if there was some way we could measure customer dissapointment i think you would find that because of people like yourself your mob would be on a big loser against us newer and so called MUPPET tilers!

well said tj mate, i admire anyone who wants to learn something new . i have been tiling a long time now and still have the ambition,drive and pleasure of tiling for a living.. so my advise to all is never give up if its the trade you want then go for it!!! :icon4: :icon4: :icon4: .......

Did a job in Wynyard myself a few / lot of years back, Paul Mersons house, just before he moved south, of course, that was in my former job, before I took a change of direction and profession

'Mickey Mouse' course at N.E.T.T .................. I don't think so mate, crawl back under your bridge.

I may not know everything there is to know, who does, I don't care, I know I can go and price a job, if I get it, I know I can handle it ( up to a point ) if I can't do the job, I will tell the customer ( if it's a major no no ) if it's only a bit of advice, I'll ask here, safe in the knowledge that the great guys / girls her can and will help.

Well i have been tiling for 17+ yrs now and yes i served my time and yes it was hard slog at times and i know there are numerous training centres popping up but everybody needs to learn somewhere, some of these training centres are out for quick buck but some are genuinly helping first timers be it diy or people wanting to re-train to get a feel for tiling ,learning the basics is a start to a good career. these forums are designed for newcomers to get help off us time served tradesmen if they get stuck or just need reassurance, not for people to slag off advertisers, we should encourage these newcomers not discourage them .. dave...
