Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has travelled to Amsterdam a few times to watch Ajax in action and fresh reports in the Dutch media today claim a midfield target has caught their eye.

It was believed Pardew had attended recent Newcastle games to watch central defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, and young striking sensation Luuk De Jong, however it seems Vurnon Anita has also impressed.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is highly thought of at Ajax having come through at a young age, playing for the senior club at the age of just 16 back in 2006. He is5?6? and has played three times for Holland, just missing out on the Dutch national squad for this summer?s Euro 2012 championships after being named in the provisional 27 man shortlist.

Dutch media say that Newcastle?s Chief Scout Graham Carr has signalled out Anita should a huge offer come in for midfield dynamo Cheick Tiote that seems him leave for pasture new in the summer. The Magpies owner Mike Ashley has claimed that it would take a colossal offer to tempt him into selling any of their prized assets in the summer.

Time is running out for Danny Simpson, he recons he wants to stay but his wage demand is still the stumbling block !
Personally I hope he does go, along with Demba Ba, and Chiek Tiote. The latter were part and parcel of our bad run during the ACON. Why have these in our team when they have to leave for anything up to 8 weeks !

To be fair to ba tho it was him who kick started newcastles awesome run
Obviously was a team effort but I don't think you would have finished so high without him

Simpsom latest news..

"I'm not a greedy player and I just want to be on par with the other players around me. In football terms, what I'm asking for is by no means outrageous," Simpson told the Sunday Mirror.
"I want to stay at this club and I've been saying that all season. I've recently had a baby, I'm happy here and so is my family.
"Hopefully me and the club can find some solution. I want to stay but if I have to move, then I will accept it and move on.
"But it's a great club with 50,000 screaming Geordies at the game every week. Why would I want to leave? There is speculation but I want to state, like I have all season, I want to stay.
"Over the last two years I've played nearly 80 games and started most of them. I'm not being greedy, this club is on the up, the manager and staff are brilliant - I want to stay."

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says manager Tony Pulis could be interested in bringing Michael Owen to the Britannia Stadium on a free transfer.
