Bathroom tiling queries

Hi

As I said in my intro I'm a DIYer and have a little previous experience of tiling - a few floors and the bathroom in my last house. I live in Northern Ireland.

I'm now doing the bathroom in my current home and have a couple of questions.

1. I'm laying ceramic floor tiles and the hallway floor is oak parquet. I'm not too worried about the slight change in level but would like suggestions about how to finish the join. Do I need to get some sort of threshold strip? Would Silicon be adequate to finish the small gap between the two?

2. Looking at the fabulous pictures on the site - I probably shouldn't as I'll only be disappointed with my results in comparison - I see most of you tile directly onto the bath and finish with Silicon and it looks great. I used a bath seal strip on the bath in my last house and had intended to do so again. Is the way you guys do it a lot harder to do - should I just stick to the bath seal?

threshold strip for me and silicon round the bath. bath seals look discusting after a few years

hi freyya, buy a karl dham profiling kit they are around 12 pounds,if you read the instructions it makes Silicon finishing good quality and isnt too difficult

nice chrome/brass or wood threshold strip and Silicon around the bath

As above, I refuse to use bath trim anymore on domestic work.

threshold strip and silicon round the the bath Freyanne, looks far better. Leave a 2-3mm gap between tiles and bath so the silicon will fill this gap.

You say that the hallway is oak flooring Freyanne, are you intending to tile directly over this?

diamond tiling, I'm tiling the bathroom floor which meets the hallway floor in the doorway. Bathroom floor is concrete.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Got a threshold strip today so I can finish the floor this evening. Will probably have to internet order the karl dham kit. Fingers crossed I can find a supplier that doesn't charge silly money to post something to NI. 🙂
