Yeah, that was my first thought....think I might just be panicking that the worst may happen. Will the mapei uc stick to the metal grill? I've used an AKW tuff form in one and an AKW tri form in the other..... Wanted the linear gully in both but joist layout wouldn't allow!!

Wouldn't you want to be using colour matching mapesil there?
Are you doing a full on wetroom?

Yes, full on Times 2!! To be fair, these are my first wetrooms. I've fitted and tiled many bathrooms but have always used trays, so this is quite new to me. I've read so many different things on here, Most saying not to silicone around the waste.

I'm torn between ultracolour and sealer or kerapoxy. The only reason I'm drawn towards the kerapoxy is due to it being impermeable. Either way, I'll do the whole lot to match in anthracite. Which sealer would you use??

Just started the floor tiles this afternoon. Will get the rest laid tomorrow. Have also put loose wire ufh in. False wall with concealed cistern and wall hung pan.

How far are you on your wetroom?

Sorry Paul I missed your post stating wet rooms.
Mine's a little ensuite with a tray.
If I was doing a wetroom in my house then I would probably spend that bit extra and use kerapoxy too.

yeah, think I'm gonna go with the kerapoxy. Would you use the kerapoxy around the drain also? Thanks for your help.

I've only done a couple of wet rooms and I've always siliconed around the drain. I would give Mapei a buzz and see what they recommend.

You shouldn't silicone around the drain! Water needs to get away under the drain - assuming it's a decent design drain with allowance for sub-tile drainage that is.

When installing a wet tray you should always prep it as if water WILL be sloshing around under the tiles.
Do that, it will last forever.

Trying to keep water out, coupled with poor drains - with no weep holes etc - and you could very likely see failures. Maybe not for several years - maybe sooner....

Many peeps silicone around drains after having seen grout crack and fail at that point.

Two reasons it fails at the drain -
One is movement around the drain from improper installation i.e. no support or poor support around the drain.
The other is simply cheap, nasty trays with poor drains.

Thanks impish....the trays are AKW tuff form with the square grille waste and AKW tri form with the linear waste.

I'm going to use mapei kerapoxy cq grout. So should I just grout around the waste as normal?
