Had a lady phone me today she has had a limestone floor laid, the guy who laid it used an impregnating sealer, then he put a sealer on top of that? Now she is telling me its really hard to clean and its feels sticky. Need advice on best way to tackle this (plz Kev) only a small area. Need to do it on one day as its bloody miles from me.

Andrew,

A topical sealer will rarely bond when an impregnating sealer has been used. Use Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover let it dwell for about 45 minutes keep it wet and either use an emulsifying pad or a rotary scrubber then vac it up. Rinse and Mop and vac it up again that should sort it!

Re: Limestone floor hard to clean.

Thanks Kev, thats what i was going to do. Will it need impregnating sealer re applied once sealer has been removed? Because the sealer was applied on top as it was hard to keep clean in the first instance, and if so can it be done the same day? It was a solvent based impregnator used. I dont think it was applied properly the first time thats the problem. Andrew

Andrew,

Thats going to cause you few problems mate. The only comparable sealer you could use from the Aqua Mix range is Ultra Solve but they suggest not mixing them. The problem you have is the cleaning because even if you use a Wet Vac to clean up the floor is still going to have a certain amount of water in it and will need to dry out because of the fact that the sealer you want to use has a solvent carrier and not a water one this will result in the second coat of sealer being rejected because of the water in the stone if you were to do it straight away. I would price it up for two visits and explain to them the reasons. It is better to do it properley rather than shortcut it and do it wrong again. I would also be tempted to find out what sealer they used to impregnate and let me know then i can dig the SDS sheets out and let you have a better opinion on what I would do. Any other probs either PM, E mail, post again or give me a bell.

Thanks Kev, i did explain that two visits would be necessary, she is going to let me know the impregnator, it was the company that supplied the stone who gave her my number i might give them a bell as the usually supply the sealants for customers. Thanks
