Haha it's the Calacatta marble, doesn't matter where the slab came from, it's called Calacatta for its own unique reasons, so it will ALL be similar.

Hi All - thanks for the advice and suggestions. I've only been tiling since late last year so XXL format tiles are a bit daunting.

Exactly, only thing you were slightly off in was that the Chinese make the crap stuff. Haha
There's so much more to the way they trade than I ever realised.
It's like that Hampstead staircase, you can clearly see its cheap Chinese crap! 😛

It's cheap Chinese stuff compared to the way the earth makes it which is priceless pal. 😉

The Chinese are market leaders in a lot of the game. They're not the biggest economy for nothing. Well, child labour, but it keeps our iPhones cheap. Not wait, no it doesn't pmsl

I never said it was better than the real stuff did I!
I just said you'd be pushed to tell them apart.
But you can pay £700m2 and use far more of the earths resources, or you can pay £150m2 and be just a little bit greener. Haha

lol I never said you did say that 😛 😛

I'm not sure they're actually greener either lol Digging and chopping up compared to the burning of coal and oil making porcelain and firing them etc.

I wonder which is heavier per cubic tonne too. I bet if it's more dense it'll be porcelain. So all the freight costs too. lol 😛 😛

Just to be pedantic, a metric tonne is a metric tonne, a bit like Calacatta is Calacatta, 😀

It's the cubic metre of space they require, depending on each materials density, that makes the difference. 😛😛

It's all supposition anyway, cos I don't actually know, was just speculating haha

That's a silly size.

Are we really just doing this to not see grout joints?

Are people who are buying them thinking it's going to fool other people into thinking they have a room built from solid marble? lol

I think they're pushing for more fascade applications

That decide to close the Joints up, never seen one of them before, is that really necessary ?

What was that Andy, a seaming tool?
A sucker on both tiles and it pulls them together?
Can be useful, sometimes there's so much suction generated,it's difficult to move them when they're fully bedded that last couple of mil without fear of breaking them.

Yeah that's the tool, I would have thought the handles on the regular suckers would be enough. Have you got a seaming tool?

Trouble is sometimes on the larger stuff when you want to bring it together that last mil or so it's oh so very easy to dink corners together if you use too much force, surely you've done it? 😀
So that tool brings them together slowly without that risk.
I don't actually mate, been on the lookout for a while tho.
I know I won't use it a lot, so reluctant to buy a new one. They start at about £150, there is one I've found for about £100, just don't like the look of it.

Yes I have done just that and it's seriously annoying, that annoyance is probably amplified when the tile is so much bigger!
Can't you knock something up? a man of your means.

Often thought about it, it's just that when you have the time, you don't remember you need to do it. Haha
