UFH and tanking

Hi,
I am tanking a wet room floor. I am using travertine tumbled tiles unfilled and UFH.
I am a little confused as to where you put the heating cable, below or above the tanking membrane.
Also with this type of tile you seal after grouting, is this correct.

This depends upon tanking used and substrate..?

Thanks for the responses, at the moment it looks like a split decision. What I want to ensure is the tiles I put down don’t crack in the future.

There seems to be two different oppinions on how to do this! to lay the cable on top or below the membrane?? now micko must be really confused?
can any one shed some light on this as to which is better above or below and for what substrates and tanking system used and for what the reason is as to lay it this way???

Jay, thanks, it is on a concrete floor, but I am using a tray type former. I am just a DIY man not a tiler, but what you say makes sense to me, it may pay me to ask are there any disadvantages in having the UFH below the tanking membrane rather than on top.

yes that's right way to do it :hurray:

Again this depends on the tanking being used...

For instance if Dural Ci were being used then it would be on top of the ufh to get the full un-coupling features...but if it was a paint on tanking kit then it could be underneath..

micko...If using the wp membrane then tank first if you intend to bed the UFH in the adhesive..as i wouldn't be using Slc over the membrane..but if you are wanting it as an anti crack membrane then use the wp on top..

An advantage of having something like Dural Ci over the top is that if you needed to remove a tile at a later date then you would have the Ci as a protection over the UFH too.

I want to use the wp membrane as both a tanking membrane and anti crack, I intended to cover the UFH in Slc to give it some protection before the tiles are put down. Will wp membrane be OK for this or should I get some Dural ci for the floor?

Personally..I would go the Ci route.. also the channels in the Ci distribute the heat evenly..
