Hi guys
i have a job to do where i need to tile over tile they are both ceramic. The reason i am leaving them down is because thay are solid and flat as a pancake now i have never tiled over on a floor is there any special prep i need to do for this job?

300x300 tiles

3mm joint

area is 6m2

rapidset adhesive (weber)

bal grey grout (wide joint)

Best advice you will get is to take them up as you have no idea what the bond is like.
6mtrs of tiles will take about 30 minutes to take up with an SDS using a chisel attachment.

I was going to ask if you knew what the original tiles are bonded with but diamond beat me to it

the problem with tiling on tile is you dont know whats underneath, you can get a good bond with your new tiles but the existing tiles may still debond

best to have them up and start afresh

Tiles can often seem solid but the reality is the adhesion can be very weak if settled. Best way of doing the job is to lift the tiles and tile directly onto the floor.

If I was to tile over tile, I'd be more inclined to use a flexible rapidset.

Going to ask which weber adhesive you had? weber.set rapid not suitable, weber.set rapid plus not suitable, weber.set rapid SPF (low dust) suitable.
