can i tile directly onto painted walls or does it need scoring first(the paint is solid and not flaking at all)

Yes you can. You need to ensure that the paint is not flaking or bubbling, clean and grease free. Maybe give it a good rub down with some coarse sand paper to provide the 'key'.

Then PVA 3:1 and use some decent wall adhesive.

Bobs your uncle.🙂

Depends

If the walls are emulsion painted - then they really need to be sanded mechanically.
The tiles are more likely to fall off if this is not done.

yes you can peel it off but what about paint ,that peels off aswell.
if i come across this when a customer wants me to tile over paint i always advise its not normal practice.if they still want it doing then its down to them not you if the tiles fall off,try and get something on paper to cover your back
