Sealing terracotta before laying

Hello All. I am about to lay some reclaimed terracotta tiles. I have some LTP sealer to seal them before laying and grouting. My question is, should I seal the back or just the surface that will show?

Hi.. You say reclaimed .. are they already sealed.. ?.. could well be linseed oiled and waxed.. so not a straight forward project.

As Dave says what are the tiles or pics would help. can be laid by a compertant. dIY er just find out all about them before you start

John I remember the days when all I laid was terracotta, slate, and limestone in that order. You must of been the same.

Thank you for your replies. The tiles are 8 inch square terracotta with a slight hollow in the back. There is some old cement on the back of some. They have not been sealed with anything before, they are super absorbent all round. One or two are broken and the colour of the surface is consistent with the inside.

Would I be right in just sealing the top surface then, before laying, before grouting and then after finishing the whole job?
