One day when I finish the ensuite and bathroom I will eventually turn my attention to tiling the kitchen floor, which was screeded about 3 weeks ago. My question is whether in the interim I can seal it with...............PVA.................just to keep the dust down !.................or should I just use snake oil ?!

In tiling this is almost a 4 letter word.........

If you intend tiling the floor, then PVA has no place at all in you plans. if you must seal it with something, use an acrylic primer such as BAL APD diluted 1 to 1 with water. Though it is not necessary to prime sand/cement screed before tiling, doing so as mentioned above would help to give a nice dust free surface so if it is sometime later that you intend tiling, go over it again with the APD (or equivalent), it won't hurt.

An acrylic primer will let the moisture through.....where as a synthetic primer/sealer could hinder......but at 3 weeks old you should be leaving it alone anyway..unless using a vapour equalistion membrane..or green screed adhesive..

Thanks gents, I was rather hoping that pva might be acceptable on a floor ! , I think I'll pass on the APD, too expensive for the area I have to do, guess I'll just put up with the dust !

I agree with Dave G and Dave(Admin)
Can you give me a name of a vapour equalistion membrane,Dave I havent heard of that term before?

No probs........english or german.....?

ok both....lol lol..

english : Schluter

german : Schlüter

Equalisation of vapour pressure
The interconnected air channels between the cavities on the underside of the Schlüter-DITRA matting remain open. This allows moisture in the substrate to evaporate, thus neutralising vapour pressure.

Hi Dave, Thanks I now Know what you mean`t.Reminds me of a song,"Let it Breath" :8:2Balls
