Hi in advance...... I'm a bit new to the tiling game and just looking for some pointers please!!!!
i have been using the search for these questions but now getting a headache:mad2:.
could someone explain to me in laymans terms, when and which tiles need to be sealed? and which tiles dont need it, also best procedure to follow? And should they be sealed straight away or after a few days?

My second query is I'm applying 600x300 porcelain on walls soon and have been told by topps not to use their trade waterproof ready mix due to fact of the size and weight of them. Now I have been told by an experienced tiler mate of mine that it will be fine he has used it for years on big tiles and never had a problem so some views on that please. I always use powdered flex on floors and comfortable with using rapid set but if I don't need to waste time mixing up buckets for the walls then would save time.

many tthanks great site:hurray:

Hi and welcome.

Most stone, crackle glaze ceramics, polished porcelain and some full bodied porcelain.

600x300 tiles are way too big for tubbed adhesive.

600x300 Porcelain with tubbed???
WTF???
Experienced Tiler???
WTF???

Because he has done it for years don't make it right.

& I use "Tiler" in the very loosest of terms...

Stop before you kill somebody, if your hell bent on tiling get some training, that size tile could / will kill if fixed wrong.

yeh ten years..... BUT!!! thats why I'm asking cuz didnt think it was right and will be going with powdered... I take it there's no need for flexi and any preferences on slow or rapid to be used?

What's the rule of thumb for t
ubbed adhesive with tile sizes? I havent ever gone over 300x300

I wonder if some people ever read the text printed on the products there using. :banghead:

i would say asking experienced tillers on a forum (as this is one for that very purpose) would be an invaluable knowledge base in addition to JUST reading printed text on products 😛rrr:

I would say that if i was going to be being paid to do work in somebody's home i would want to not only do a good job but also offer the best guarantee i can. Part and parcel of that is adhering to manufacturers instructions. You'd have no come back on the 25 year warranty BAL Offer on their adhesive if you've used a tub of green star to fix 600x300 porcelain. Why?? Because their product data sheets says not too and its printed on the side of the the tub!

Yes this forum contains a wealth of knowledge and advice. But you have the product sat in front of you!
