Went back to rip up some tiles we laid almost 2 years ago, Jerusalem limestone.
I told the builder at the time that we should use Ditra or similar but they wouldn't listen.
The floor was a shocker & it took a serious amount of slc to get it anywhere near flat.
I've ripped it up back to the base & they want me to fit Porcelanosa Imperband,
Do you think I would be better fitting the Imperband first then slc or slc then Imperband?

What was the original problem?

I didn't think it was a decoupler?

are you trying to decouple or waterproof?

Hi Stef,
Surprised you laid a floor to the standards you wern't happy with in the first place.
Is there a height restriction with using ditra this time, as Imperband is slightly thinner.
As for which to lay first you should know.

The concrete base has a few cracks in it & they have transferred up into the stone.
They were told at the time to put Ditra or similar down.
Now they have acquired Imperband but I don't know much about it as never used it.
I was told it was a de-coupler!!
This job doesn't fall back on me as its the builders job not my own!!

No mention of decoupling here... Imperband

There do do another version of it (forget the name now) which may be an anti-crack membrane.

I'd go for ditra myself if thats the problem you have. Whatever you do, i'd SLC first personally

found the other one I was thinking of - Lamitech which is a decoupler Butech

I'm going to have to check in the morning as I'm not sure what they have.
They told me it was Imperband.
I never even noticed what was written on the roll, I was too busy ripping tiles up.
I wasn't sure whether to slc first or not, the floor in places is near 35mm & at the shallowest 15mm so could be tight with Ditra, stone is 10mm.
I wish some builders would listen to advice.

Not likely,
I even thought about fitting a decoupler then slc then another decoupler then tile to try & help out the situation.
A couple of the cracks in the base are bad.
I'm on an hourly rate for the repair so no rush.

Well turned up at job today & it's Imperband.
Made a call & was told "don't use it" & " I don't think the cracks will open up any more".
It's just settlement..

Told them they have to decouple this now but no they just want it repaired.
