I want to tile a wet room using a 10mm stone tile, the walls are 2.6 meters high and rendered.
I was thinking of dry lining the wall with 12.5mm plasterboard. What concerns me is will the plasterboard take the weight of the tiles or should I go with batons and backer boards. I have looked at some marmot 2.4*.6 boards that could be used for dry lining but the price is too scary.

The plasterboard will hold the weight ( approx 32 kg m2 ) as long as the bond between the render and the plasterboard is strong, apply tiles direct to the board, after priming first of course.

Hope that helps.

Yes the render is in good condition so I should be OK.
Thanks for the fast response Alan.

If it is sand/cement render you can tile straight onto it if it is in good order.

can i just add if i board out bathrooms by dotndab. as an extra i always screw and plug the boards for extra strength i wont rely on the dabs to hold all that weight i use the wedi washers so they dont pull through the boards:8: right my fingers sore now thats it:nono:

I’m not a real tiler,
I will run a straight edge down my wall tomorrow and have a look but I think it’s OK.
I have only tiled on to dead flat surfaces in the house in the past so I am a little nervous of messing it up. I would be happier with plasterboard but you may be able to talk me round.
