I find the Rubi cutters easier to use, mainly for 2 reasons. Firstly because of the vision of the scoring wheel and secondly because the Montolit base tends to have a lot of movement in it when you score towards the end of the tile...don't know if anyone else has found this??

I think i'll end up with a new Rubi. Would you say that a TX700N and something like a TS40 is what could get me by initially? Do you think that cover for 'most' jobs as such for someone new to tiling???
I think that they'll do just fine Spen:thumbsup:

The downside to rubi cutting machines they dont last anymore , they aint built to last the ts40 ts 50 fall apart , spend money on the tx model put together better and the breaking arm works better can see it lasting, gone through 5 ts40 and 2 ts 50 in the last 3 years says it all , stopped using them its a shame they use to be better. still got the tm70 which i brought 20 years ago and still works and nothing has gone wrong with it
regards
marbleman
but it seems most cutting machines are poorly made now and not made to last
Would they be still under warranty mate?

Montolit masterpiumer in it's various sizes will do almost everything you would need to do. Best thing to do is try to get a demo and see if it "works" for you. I have the Masterpiuma 63, Dave is a devout Rubi man!!!

What weight is your Montolit has it cut everything you have used on it perfect

As a company Rubi have been going for time. And their design hasn't changed much at all (required: the post about rubi and their age and cutter design, showing the wooden tile cutter)

Though the other one, never heard of them! (joke).

The thing thats niggling me is that my friend says that because of it's light weight, he just has a Masterpiuma 63 and and mini montolit and it covers him for everthing he comes accross at a cost of around £290 for both. I prefer the use of the Rubi's but i'm then looking at £480 and a hell of a lot more weight for a TX700N and a TR400s (for smaller tiles and mosaics which the Monty does). Thats nearly £200 more...............hmmmmmm........am i being wrongly biased towards the Rubi brand rather than going for what sounds like the lighter, cheaper more versatile option??? Or is he blowng moke up my @ss and just defending his cutter with his life!!?

A new light weight TX700n is coming to the uk in the next couple months...

It has a full alloy body.....so the choice is yours...

Is the weight quite restricting then for he 700 or do you forget about it after a while? Couple of months eh, any idea how much lighter it'll be?

I have the TX700n and the weight doesn't bother me...

The newer model is alloy so about half the weight it is now...
