Hi There, i'm new to tiling and i'm in a dilemma...i've used the Rubi TR600S previously but i was thinking of buying a Rubi TX700N after hearing some good reviews of it. But am i then going to need a smaller cutter for splashbacks etc or will this cutter cover me for most work?

Also, i don't know know how wide the feet of the moving breaker are as someone told me that you couldn't cut glass mosaic with it where you can with the Montolit Piuma due to it's smaller breaker!?!? Is this right?

Any suggestions welcome!

The tx is no good for small mosaics...you are right...

But the tr 400s is,, coz i have one...

As for the difference between montolit and rubi....

mmmm montolit is a longer word......

It's upto a tilers choice of cutter...what works for one might not for another..

Montolit masterpiumer in it's various sizes will do almost everything you would need to do. Best thing to do is try to get a demo and see if it "works" for you. I have the Masterpiuma 63, Dave is a devout Rubi man!!!

I Like rubi cutters cos thats what ive used. Cant see that there is any right or wrong.
If your anywhere near pop in to see Dave at Tradetiler Tradetiler.com Home very helpful bloke sure he will demo whatever you want and do you a good deal:thumbsup:
let us know your decision an you may win a Rubi hat (montolit dont do a hat cos their names too long to go on the front):lol:
have you considerd the Sigma?:mad2:

I find the Rubi cutters easier to use, mainly for 2 reasons. Firstly because of the vision of the scoring wheel and secondly because the Montolit base tends to have a lot of movement in it when you score towards the end of the tile...don't know if anyone else has found this??

I think i'll end up with a new Rubi. Would you say that a TX700N and something like a TS40 is what could get me by initially? Do you think that cover for 'most' jobs as such for someone new to tiling???

Nope!!

The downside to rubi cutting machines they dont last anymore , they aint built to last the ts40 ts 50 fall apart , spend money on the tx model put together better and the breaking arm works better can see it lasting, gone through 5 ts40 and 2 ts 50 in the last 3 years says it all , stopped using them its a shame they use to be better. still got the tm70 which i brought 20 years ago and still works and nothing has gone wrong with it

but it seems most cutting machines are poorly made now and not made to last

Cheers marbleman, i didn't realise picking a cutter would be such a dilemma and take so long!? I haven't even started on the wet cutter yet!

I can only give advice on what tools i have used the last 30 years
Raymondi wet cutter cant buy much better, easy to clean, never had to change pump on either machine, good cutting length, and has wheels on the machine for easy moving,
only issue i have is the guide wears to easily, but then thats like most on the market , i have had raymondi now for 6 years and they still going strong,
Rubi wet cutters are ok, but found they jam to easily and pumps fail, but then i could of been unlucky
regards
marbleman
