Hi,
Myself and Business partner Colin are going to tackle our first marble floor tomorrow,
our customer today brought all the tiles(9 quid each) 300mmx300 for 7.5 mts2
Were laying over existing vinyl tiles.
Could you tell us please if we are going to do this in the correct way?
Here goes.
What we are thinking of doing is clean the vinyl floor with sugar soap first, then scour the floor with a stanley knife, then seal it with a coat of Granfix acrylic primer. Once that is dryin,we gonna spray some Sealguard on the back of each tile (the bloke in the shop rekons its good stuff and makes for more protection) then we will put down some white adhesive but also back skim the tile.
Were using black grout with 2mm spacers, then once its all grouted up we gonna spray the whole foor and grout lines with the sealguard spray.
Does that seem ok to all you experts.
Thanks in advance.
Vinnie.
Sorry forgot, does £300 quid seem a fair price for this?
Cheers.

no need to seal the back.... .....oh me ribs from laffin........tell that bloke in the shop to give his head a shake........... :joker:

my advice would be dont give anyone guarantees if you fix on top of vinyl unless your adhesive manufacturer , primer supplier does the same.
also be careful with black / brown or any grout with coloured pigemnts added on natural products even if you seal it first.
they can be very problematical.
check on a few off cuts first preselaed and leave longer than you would normally before washing off and see if it stains.

surely it's not difficult to remove 7.5 metres of vinyl tile. Also when you say spray on sealer be very careful about the product you use. There can be health risks with some spray on sealers.

Yes thanks, the rooms well ventilated,
I cant see the point of ripping the tiles up, Ive had enough aggro taking tiles off walls and finding it a nightmare to tile. Not gonna create more hasle, once there up you still got to srape all the adhesive off the floor, nah, not when I can tile straight onto it,customer was happy for me to do it too.
Vinnie
