Limestone or Travertine Bathroom ?

Hi All,

I am just in the process of putting a new bathroom in and have been looking at a natural stone tile to go floor to ceiling. I quite fancy either travertine or limestone in a light gold look. I have read so much about colour variation and poor quality tiles over the internet I thought it was better to just ask advice so here goes.

Is Limestone a better stone to use for colour variation ?

The tiles are going on a concrete floor and I am thinking of an electric UFH, is this suitable with stone or does it take too long to heat up?

Does anyone know of a good stone supplier in the Cambridgeshire area, I have considered Travertine Direct on the internet, the samples look OK I was hoping to pay in the region of £30 psm?

Any advice appreciated guys

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, the only reason I was thinking of a gold colour was the entire bathroom suite is white. I was worried that with a lighter tile it would all look a bit washed out. The room is 3.4 mtrs sq. The tile I was interested in was Salam gold limestone.

but you guys have probably seen many more bathrooms than me.....

Limestone will naturally have less voids in it than travertine but if both are filled properly they should be about the same for durability and stain resistance.

Just remember that both are acid sensitive (calcium based based stones) and need to be sealed and cared for properly with the right products.

Thanks for the replies guys, all good stuff. Just found out, god bless tilers forums ! That the plaster won't hold the stone and I need to put backer boards on the walls. I have done a bit of porcelain tiling but never stone. The walls are v goods in a true and square sence can I just screw the backer boards to the walls ?
