We are in the final stages of our first self build and are about to start the tiling.
We have a tiler booked to lay the tiles (starts tomorrow) but we are supplying all of the materials. We have wet underfloor heating with a screed laid on top and we are going to use Durabase Matting and then tile on top. We have purchased a flexible adhesive (Toppfix as we got a good price) and now need the right grout for the job.
I've been looking at the Mapei products after looking at this site but need confirmation of what grout to purchase that will work with UFH.
I can't work out what colour I need either as I can't seem to find a colour chart anywhere. The tiles we have bought are ceramic but a travertine lookalike so hopefully that gives an indication of the colour. The tiles will be laid downstairs in the high traffic areas (kitchen/family room, utility, hall and downstairs shower room (wet room)).
Also, how much will I need? Bit of a girly question I guess as I know that it depends on the joint size and as the tiler hasn't started yet I don't know how big that will be other than 'normal' I guess. The tiles are 45 x 30 and the floor area to be tiled is 150 square metres. We are also tiling the walls in the shower room so we need grout for another 30 square metres on top for the walls.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

sounds like mapei jasmine wiould be a good colour match, also the back of the bag gives a good indicator on how much grout is needed,of the top of my head i think you will get about 10m2 per 3kg

The good thing with Mapei Ultra colour is that it can be used for walls and floor grouting... you then have matching grout colour if that is what is needed... some other makes do separate grouts and they dry different shades... so worth a thought when choosing a grout.

Ultra colour is perfect for UFH installations and is anti mould as well..

You can purchase it from any Tile giant store or you can order on-line now if you wish.. Grout & Silicon - Tile Adhesive & Grout

The tiles are now laid with the Mapei Jasmine grout and look great. The tilers did a good job of cleaning the tiles but there is a small amount of residue on the tiles that I would like to get rid of possibly using a grout film remover. Can anyone please suggest something suitable for these ceramic tiles:

Padova 80 Cream Wall / Floor Tile | Topps Tiles

Thanks!

LTP Grout Stain Remover

Description: LTP Grout Stain Remover is the solution for removal of cement and grout residues and is extremely effective against mineral salt formations (efflorescence). Useful for routine cleaning of patios and other outside paved areas, LTP Grout Stain Remover may be used on glazed ceramics, quarry tiles, terracotta and some stone.

Tips: Pick this product if you have cement and grout residues, mineral salt formations, limescale, water marks, dirty patios and other outside areas. Do not use on limestone or when underfloor heating systems are in operation. DO NOT USE ON ACID SENSITIVE SURFACES.

Certainly seems to be the case! I've got 72 square metres of hazy tiles to deal with and that's gonna take some serious work I think. With another 80 square metres left to do is there some sort of sealer I can put on the tiles either before or after tiling to prevent this? It's not natural stone so I'm not sure whether there is a sealer I can use. Is there also something I should use on the tiles/grout after the job is complete?
Thanks!

Maybe so.. but they left the haze and should at least remove it free of charge..

We've ordered some grout cleaner so we'll see what they say on Monday. To be fair you couldn't really see the haze when they left as the tiles were still damp on Friday but now that they've dried out fully it's very evident now. Having done a search it does seem to be a problem with this particular tile which is why I'm wondering whether there is something that can be used to seal the tiles before grouting. At the moment we're considering whether to get a grout gun or bag to do the rest.

You can get temp surface sealer's to allow grout clean up easier but a haze can still be there if not washed of enough afterwards.

The tiler should allow the grout set hard enough before the last wash off..and this lessens the chance of pulling grout from the joint and leaving a haze after washing down.

Aqua Mix Grout Release is a temporary, water soluble, pre-grout coating. It provides protection against grout and mortar staining and eases grout clean up.

that is one that is available..
