For the record Brian, all shower trays want to be on 18mm ply. Just on tiling a couple of showers on chipboard and you can feel the 'give' in them.

Just found out the glass blocks weigh about 65kg m2

That sounds like trouble, speaking of which, with that amount of weight and a 'wooden' floor, I'm guesing you need to use some form of tie bar to tie the glass blocks to the existing wall ? just like you would an extension wall. I'm sure as Dave says, it's all possible given the correct prep ( pppppp ) but it is starting to sound like a project 😀

I will follow this one with interest as she who must be obeyed has just come up with the idea of redoing the bathroom and having a glass wall between the bath and shower instead of the existing stud wall.

I am just off the phone to the client and he has had a change of heart,he just wants a total refurb with a new bathroom suite.Incidentley he did say my dad is a joiner and he said the weight of the blocks should be no more than when you are in a bath full of water.I told him that the baths weight is spread over 1,2m2 approx depending on the size of the bath and that the glass brick wall was over a smaller area and therefore the weight would be a burden on his chipboard floor.(therefore the floor would need to be reinforced imo)..joiners/plumbers ...how come they always know best?NOT!
