Floor prep fof half timber, half concrete - TilersForums.com

Hi folks, I found tiles I want in my kitchen- they are 600x600x10mm porcelain 'morandi mocha' from tile source. Kitchen is 18sqm, utility is 4sqm and w.c. is 2sqm.
I would like to get someone in, & may advertise on here, but firstly, I want to save some money & get the floor prepared if I can. Half the floor is timber boards on joists (all sound, no flex) the other half is concreet floor screed.

How would you prepare the floor?

Would you be satisfied with a customer preping the floor? Or would you rather do it yourself? (I did the prep for bathroom floor, laid SLC over heating wires & floor was level for the tiler).

Better if the tiler preps, then he knows how it's done and can stand over the work.

What sort of timber boards? 6" floorboards/ply/chipboard etc? And is there any height difference between the two? Best way would be to overlay timber side with cement boards and SLC the screed side to the same level if need be. You'd need to start a full tile and create an expansion joint either side of the different substrates too.

Thanks for the feedback both. It's 6ft floor boards over joists on the timber side.

Hoping to use a 'cold joint' of matching silicon for the expansion joint. - to make it less obvious than the 10mm strip

No you can't bridge over 2 substrates...!
With ditra! It needs an expansion joint
