Drywall Adhesive

I just bought some ceramic wall tiles (20cm X 25 cm) from my local tile supplier.

Although he could have sold me some adhesive he said to use drywall adhesive as it's much cheaper and is more adhesive for ceramic tiles . The tiles are going in a place where they will not get wet.

Does this sound viable

No, dry wall adhesive is for sticking plasterboards to walls, not tiles!

I've never heard this suggested before, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work but I wouldn't recommend it. Its not the correct product for the job.

was this an independant tile shop or a chain store? either way they're talking out their bottoms. if as you say the tiles are not going to be in a wet area a tubbed (ready mix) adhesive is suitable and tbo for a DIY'er more practicable.

if it was a tile shop why would he not sell you the proper adhesive ....very strange.
