Hi all,

I have bought a 1.5m2 devimat.

The bathroom is currently being tiled, with the floor left to be done tomorrow.

I called the electrician around today to have a look at my devimat. The floor sensor cable is not long enough.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem? The instructions say it can be lengthened with the correct materials, but what is a correct material?

I am in Manchester, does anyone know of any local stockists?

Any help much appreciated.

Not long eneough..?

How far is the thermostat from the room...?

The probe cable is about a mtr long...

The Thermostat is about 3.5 metres away.

The problem being, we are only having the devimat in the wetroom section, which is the furthest point away from the thermostat!

I think a compromise might be to start the devimat more towards the thermostat and then roll towards the wet tray, and see where it takes us.

Surely your electrician can lengthen your cable for you. Can only need something like 1mm twin and earth (don't quote me) and a cable connector. The box it came in will have a help line No. give them a ring if in doubt.

I may be wrong but I believe that sensor cables can be lengthened by using a "junction box" fitting and appropriate cables.

As an aside, I have just laid a system from Uheat, our sponsors, and my system came with a sensor cable nearly 5m long! Speak to Pete at Uheat to see if he can get you a long cable separately.

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys.

In the end, we ground out a thin section of travertine and embedded the sensor in the wall joint.

Now, we will move one section of the devimat towards the sensor in order for it to work.

Speaker cable I beleive can be used to extend the twin-core thermostat sensor probe thingy-me-jig. Double check with your supplier though. 🙂

Surely you simply need to extend using any 'suitable' cable i.e. good conductor and appropriate current rating, (which in this case is probably next to d--n all). The active sensing bit is at the end of the cable you have, and the rest is just conductor, so it's not a big problem. Choose an extension cable of similar conductor section and you'll be alright.

Don't know about Devi probes, but all the probes will deal with can be extended using standard cable, i.e. t&e or flex. Something 0.75mm2 to 1.0mm2 would be fine.

Most probes use resistances of 1,000s of ohms to provide reading to thermostat so a extension to the cable on the probe will make no difference to the performance.

Hope this helps

Warm Regards,

Peter
