i am having a conservatory built, the concrete floor and dwarf wall all done, it is now open to the elements with rain, snow, frost etc. we had a floor installer come to see us about quoting to put in a floor and he said the gap between concrete floor and patio door when opening into the soon to be conservatory was not enough, the conservatory will be linked via patio doors from dining room so the floors do not have to be level. I was told the following, i need to know is this right and any other advice would be appreciated as need to get floor level correct before the actual building goes up so if the floor needs reducing with a machine we can get it done now before framework goes up. I am having the chap who put the concrete floor in saying the floor installer doesnt know what he is on about and the floor installer saying the gap is not big enough....end of, helppppppppp i am caught in the middle here and dont know !!! lol

1. as the concrete floor has been left open to the elements we were advised to wait 4 weeks to dry once conervatory erected to let floor dry out, is this correct
2. what is the correct depth in mm for self levelling to be applied on a relavitely level floor, we are putting tiles down so level does need to be spot on
3. what is the correct depth for self adhesive required, tile thickness approx 6mm
4. is there a recommended gap after the installation is finished of tiled floor level to bottom of patio door or is it lef to personal preference.

any help will be very much appreciated, thankyou for reading this

Hiya Rich.
Could do with photos really.
If your floor man knows his stuff he's probaly right in what he says, he would look for issues before he quotes.
Is the concrete floor in the base at the finished height with no screed to go onto top???
The levelling depth depends on what kind of floor the builder has left you with.
You can have a 'flat' floor which is not 'level', a bit like a cd case is perfectly flat, but may not be level. There are levelers that can go to 50mm if needed.
Leave the floor for as long as possible and de humidify once covered, it'll be soaking and it's best left to dry thoroughly.
Most tilers use an 8-10mm floor trowel and this will bed down to about 4mm on a 'flat' well prepared floor.

Is there an existing door between the two rooms or has the builder got to knock an opening through, if so careful measuring needs to be done so that he's got the floor at the correct height.

hi, there are existing patio doors and they are staying so floor level does not have to be the same, do you know what the standard gap required would be to put tiles in, i estimate upto 2mm for self levelling as floor is flat just not level as such, 10mm reduced to 4mm when tile put on it for adhesive and the tile itself, is this about right do you think or are my figures out ?

It doesn't sound like you got much room to play with here. An average floor tile is 10mm plus adhesive 4-6mmsounds like you beginning to run out of room for your door to open.
It does sound like the builderhas put the floor in too high.
