Does any one have a concrete grinder, or have used one like this one by Makita?

Makita USA - Tool Details - PC5000C

Bosch makes one that is similar in size and price. (about $400 US)

Hilti has one that is about 4+X the price (aobut $1800 US), but the Hilti rep won't commit to anything :mad2:when I ask him questions about the tool, and I am not going to spend that much money on a tool that I can't either use first or get some good answers from someone that has used it.

DG 150 Diamond Grinder System w/ Power Conditioner: Item No.: 00369388 - Hilti USA

I want to use the tool for standard concrete prep for tile-remove paint, coatings, stains, blackjack, etc. I don't need to do large, commerical-sized preparations because we only do residential.

Thanks for any advice from the forum.

Hi Dave, I didn't think to check Milwaukee. Let me take a look...

Milwaukee has really dumbed-down a lot of their tools and sent them off to China to be made:incazzato: . I have a lot of old Milwaukees made in the US, great tools, still running well. The Chin-waukee stuff that I have bought is pretty much disposable.

The makitas I have are made here in the US, a lot of the Bosch stuff I ahve is made in either Germany or the UK.

Just had a little stroll round Makitas US site... How the hell does a portable band saw work! and why have I never seen one before?

Hi Rob, The plumbers buy those things on big production jobs. They cut pipe a bit better than using the sawzall.

I was  at the mention of the "skyhook"** in the features section.

***A common joke on newbies on the jobsite. Is it the same in the UK?

No we really do use them in the UK, although fitting does require some specialist tools, namely a left handed screwdriver and a long weight:smilewinkgrin:

I have used concrete grinders in the past but not the hand held type on the site in the first post. I have usually used a carborundum block sander for light prep work and to take off minor high spots. For heavier duty stuff I have used a rotary floor grinder either with heavy carborundum disks or even diamond disks. For paint removal I would have thought a copper disk sander would deal with this
