Best adhesive and grout for stone mosaic tiles on wall

Hi All

I am a newbie to this site but have spent a few hours reading various posts. I'm still not 100% sure of my best option though...

I have purchased stone mosaic tiles at Homebase. They are in 300mm square sheets with a mesh backing (6x6 tiles approx 50mm square each) and 10mm thick. Can you advise on the best wall adhesive to use? I would prefer not to use rapid drying as I am a diyer and not the quickest tiler. Presume cement-based powder adhesive in white (the tiles are quite pale). Am I right in thinking I need 100% coverage of tiles? I will be tiling a kitchen splashback approx 4-5 tiles high, 200-250 mm, onto sand/cement rendered wall. The wall has kitchen emulsion paint surface which I presume should be sanded back to the render first.

Any advice on grout? I was thinking Mapei ultracolor.

Hi..

Yes try and remove the paint as best as you can..

Use Mapei P9 or keraflex.. both slow setting and ok for what you are doing..

Ultra colour is a fast setting grout and you have to be quick, so maybe switch that to keracolour FF in stead..

Thanks for the advice Dave. Should I back-butter the mosaic tile sheets? They have a mesh backing.
I'll be tiling a shower next with white 25 x 40cm ceramic tiles, can I use the same adhesive? I am tiling onto aquapanels.

i would go with keraflex, and defo seal tiles before grout.

no need to back butter, as you may get to much on them and it will squeeze out of the joints, and yes the adhesive will be fine for the shower

Use a 4mm trowel for the stone mosaics and ye you can use the same adhesive on the white ceramics.. make sure in the shower to Silicon all internal corners and wall / tray transition joints..
