Hi all, what prep will be required for 200mmx100mm honed and filled travertine floor tiles going onto marine ply and with ufh, was going to use 10mm backer board then a latex skim, was unsure of what adhesive to use and if the tiles need sealing before or after installing, i am also using travertine walls tiles onto 12mm marmox board in the shower area, what adhesive etc should be used here also. any other tips for laying the travertine will be greatly accepted.
Many Thanks
Gary

Travertine= seal after laying~grout~seal~polish
Work Clean

so is the order below right.
1.prime marine ply fix decoupling membrane with Spf
2.Fix 10mm hardibacker or similar to membrane with Spf
3. Lay ufh matting.
4. self levelling compound.
5. Lay tiles with Spf,(do i need to prime levelling compound first.?)
6. Seal tiles
7. Grout with flexi grout.(3mm joint min still applies right.?)
8. Seal and polish. (which sealant is good for this)

if the above is not correct then please let me know.

Many many thanks, :50:

then ,

The decoupling membrane needs to go directly under the tile surface. You are trying to isolate the movement caused by thermal expansion from the tiles, as the tile in your case are quite soft. Also hardiebacker at 10mm ( think actually it is 12mm) is designed for walls and not floors. You need to get proper thermal insulation board like Elektra or wedi instead.

So how does this sound grumps.
1. Prime ply and fix thermal board with spf
2. lay ufh heat matting and then latex self levelling compound
3. Fix decoupling membrane with spf to latex(do i need to prime latex 1st)
4. Lay tiles onto membrane with spf (again do i prime membrane 1st)
5. Seal tiles on top (avoiding the sides)
6. Grout tiles with superflex or ultra colour ? 3MM grout min.?
7. Seal and polish tiles.

Is this the right order of installation now.?

Any other other advice with 200x100 travertine floor tiles(Abbas i think they are called) would be appreciated ,

also Tarvertine in shower enclosure built with 18mm ply, then lined with 12mm marmox board(probably overkill but my dad built it) which is the best way to fix the tiles to this .? do i just use spf.? do i need to prime marmox.? if they are 200x100 can i use a tubbed adhesive like white star.?

Cheers Guys :8:

Hi Gazebo, you are on the right track now. Depending on the adhesive you have chosen will depend whether you prime your ply or not. Your latex SLC nor you memebrane need priming. i wpersonally prefer Ultracolor Plus grout. 3mm should be fine.

Marmox does not need priming and again, I personally doin't used tubbed stuff any more so stick would with the spf. if you do want to used tubbed, White Star would be my choice.
