I read somewhere not long ago that b&q were set to stock a foam core, waterproof backerboard, well I called in there today for a couple of none work related bits and spotted them. This was in a large Sheffield branch so not sure if the smaller branches have them I read somewhere not long ago...
Hi
Firstly I have spent ages searching his topic so please don’t think I am just creating another post for the hell of it.
So I have now done my 5th bathroom (diy for myself and friends)
I have used backer boards for the floors. All on timber floors (floorboards and t&g moisture chipboard)...
Hi there,
New member here, and my first attempt will be tiling our bathroom floor.
I picked up some 6mm tile backer board from the local builders suppliers and plan is to screw it to the 18mm plywood floor which I have already tanked.
The board has a smooth side and a textured side-I have...
I bought some 5" discs (United Abrasives SAIC) along with a flexible backing pad (hook type) to fit into a grinder. (4" also available) for polishing ceramic cut edges. I will also try them in one of my air polishers.
These were from ATS Diamond Tools with some help. (SAIT Velour Silicon...

I've had a kitchenette installed which means there's a couple more pipes running through the bathroom above earlier boxing, which was glossed (badly) and now looks dreadful.
The bathroom is mostly tiled with white gloss 148s (unknown brand; white grout), with end-of-line green/grey 340s as...
Hi there, my situation is this....
I want to lay quartz sparkle floor tiles onto part suspended timber uninsulated floor t&g boards, part uninsulated concrete. Can have maximum overall floor rise by about 30mm. Decision, what backer boards to use?
Is 6mm ok to use on old timber floor, with...
Hi All,
Tomorrow I’m using 6mm Hardie Backer onto 22mm chipboard. I’ll be screwing it aswell as fixing it with adhesive and taping the joints with fibre tape. My question is, can i tile straight away or do i need to wait until next day?
Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone,
My first post, so go easy on me.
Im looking for info on 6mm Hardie Backerboards. I'm getting conflicting advice from suppliers. Im laying 600x600 Italian porcelain tiles to a kitchen floor, in the last 25yrs I've only ever used a minimum of 12mm exterior ply. However Over the last...
Hi guys, I'm in need of around 50m of board to line some of the interior of an endless pool project. Have got a price out of Nicobond, (their version of Lux Elements 12mm), but was wondering if I could get a better price elsewhere. Open to options in material and merchant.
Cheers.

Hi, (first post so be kind!), I am a competent DIY'er and have done numerous kitchen and bathrooms refurbishments in my time, but the boss now wants a wet room!! typical! I wonder if I could pick your brains and experience on recommendations of tile backer board systems. There appears to be...
Hello,
I am new here, need some help please.
I am tanking a small bathroom with Marmox multiboard or Wedi board (probably Marmox it is cheaper).
However there is a sloped ceiling which will partially be in the shower cubicle and get wet, it intrudes into the room quite far down to 150cm from...
I'm going to be installing marmox boards in my new bathroom onto the brick walls using the dot and dab and dowel fixing method but would just like to clarify what to do at the joints.
In wet areas I've read that you use the marmox waterproof sealing tape and dry/damp areas just self adhesive...
Hi
Had a lot of over boarding of ceilings of late so invested in a dewalt autofeed driver. Great bit of kit but wonder if its any use for fixing hardie board down. If anyones used it with sucess what screws are they using. Cheers
D
In a new wet room there will be many butt joints in the tile backer board/ insulation board on the walls & the floor. I plan to use expensive self adhesive waterproof tape around the shower former. However to use this tape everywhere would be very expensive so could I use self adhesive scrim...
I was going to fix backerboards with a continuous bed of adhesive (presuming they're not too squiffy), or dot-and-dab plus fixings if they look nasty. The wall is a standard thermalite type block thing. Might be a silly question but do I need to prime the wall or is the adhesive all right to go...
Hi all, first post so apologies if I don't get my questions quite right and ask too many; I am looking for some advice on a new shower enclosure project.
I am currently remodelling my main bathroom and plan to do most of it myself (except for the tiling.)
I am a reasonably experienced DIY'er...
Hi,
Just wondering the correct procedure for fixing 12mm cement backer boards onto Thermalite blocks (assuming this is acceptable) . I'm thinking glue and screw using cement based adhesive?
