primer
A primer is a short single-stranded nucleic acid used by all living organisms in the initiation of DNA synthesis. DNA polymerase (responsible for DNA replication) enzymes are only capable of adding nucleotides to the 3’-end of an existing nucleic acid, requiring a primer be bound to the template before DNA polymerase can begin a complementary strand. Living organisms use solely RNA primers, while laboratory techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology that require in vitro DNA synthesis (such as DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction) usually use DNA primers, since they are more temperature stable.
Should I prime bare plaster in the bathroom with SBR before tiling? I've heard it will help with the water resistance and help the tile adhesion. The tile sizes are 600x300.
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers Brian.
Hi guys, I would be very grateful for some advice about wether it is necessary to use acrylic primer on the walls in my cloakroom toilet wall. I ask because to me it looks grey like sand/cement mix? Its a 1955 council house. The walls aren't smooth like normal plaster elsewhere in the house...
Hello. New here so go easy please lol...
I’ve cut my tiles to size and laid Mapei 1210 self leveller. I read about priming the slc before I tile so I bought the nx sbr primer from wickes and applied it neat. It skinned and I had to get the whole lot up. I’ve done it again with a 4:1 ratio and...
Hi!
We've decided to give our toilet/bathroom/laundry a soft and cheap renovation by painting some really BLUE floor tiles. We went to Bunnings and purchased the primer and also the top coat/colour of choice. I scrubbed the floors and sanded then, vacuumed and then placed a coat of the primer...
Good evening.
I’ve got plasterboard walls. I’m going to use either bal primer apd or sbr and bal flex fibre plus.
I’ve read that I have to waterproof the plaster board as well. In what order do I put the primer and waterproofing on? Which comes first?
thank you for reading and helping
Hi chaps,
I’m mid way through my first DIY tiling, taking 3 half tiled walls above a bath to full tile, then adding a shower.
I stripped the paint off of the plasterboard where I wanted to add tiles, then primed it using Mapei plaster primer. Unfortunately despite using masking tape to mask...
Dear Tilers
I'am tiling to 6mm no more ply ( pre primed ) overlayed on chipboard, floor is solid and reasonably even, joists @ 400mm centers.
Area of 3.38m2 it is not a wet room & there is no shower.
The tiles are 200x900x9 porcelain wood effect.
I have selected the following adhesives...
Had a builder in to build a garage, was planning on just painting garage base but was so uneven he laid self levelling compound.
I could not paint so decided best was to tile myself with porcelain.
went out to prep floor and sweep up and noticed the floor was cracked and hollow sounding and...
Hi all, this is my first post on here although in attempting to Google answers to my questions I have come across several threads on this forum already which were really helpful. So now I thought it'd help to get advice specific to my situation...so here goes. These are all in relation to an...
What is the correct dilution for primer G on cement render? (the render has some SBR already mixed in and has totally cured/ dried)
The Mapei pdf does not give an exact figure but says 1:1 to 1:3 depending on absorbency. Preumably the more absorbent the more you dilute?
How can I tell if it...
Hi,
I've previously posted in this forum about my first failed tiling attempt. I was able to take up the tiles easily after they'd set and someone suggested my primer may have skinned over.
Since then I've taken up all the adhesive and primer and have primed again with mapei primer g 1:1 and...
Hi there,
I’ve seen the thread about backer boards water proof vs water resistant etc.
We were going to use aquapanel and tank with ever build aqua seal tanking kit which comes with primer etc.
However, the merchant had nomoreply instead.
I’ve checked this and they seem to require us to prime...

Hey guys
I've got a new, tampered concrete floor.
Not sure if I need primer before applying Mapei Renovation Screed
If yes, I've got a ton of SBR. Will this work?
The screed will be containing UFH pipes.
Thanks
ES
I'm having some tiles taken up and redone as they were previously fixed incorrectly (mainly lack of adhesive coverage). The contractors are asking to return on two separate days first to take up the tiles and prime the screed, and the second day to fix the the tiles.
My question is, should they...
