Been there done that...the beauty of shopfitting.

Which Westfield centre are you at?

I was trying to rip some old ceramics off chipboard in a bathroom fixed with timberflex.

To be fair, the tiles were solid but there were two cracks over the joists.... I have no idea when the cracks appeared.

Following a bit more back trouble and several scans, doctors and osteopath appointments, they have pretty much officially decided amongst themselves this morning that tiling is not the job I should be pursuing unless I want to risk permanent damage to my lumbar which already has a degenerative diffuse disc and makes lifting and bending rather awkward!

So a couple of years of practicing, picking up tips, collecting tools and getting my hopes up, all for **** all! Unless anyone with similar issues recently have any tips on getting round it?

Now then.... ask me again how my day is going :confused2:

I enquired but they wouldn't agree to it. They said it's not that bad yet and usually only required in later years when movement becomes more difficult. As it is degenerative and I also have "facet arthropathy" at L4/5, at this stage, apparently surgery wouldn't provide the fix I'm looking for..... I beg to differ and at least willing to take the risk! Only chance would be to pay private or make it bad enough that they do something about it. If only I could swap spines for a week then get their opinion as to how bad it is! My missus even thinks its funny when I tie my boots up, rotten cow.

Anyway... still got more follow up appointments so may try and bribe them with donuts to see if I can get a better outcome.

Should imagine every tiler on this site suffers with back and knee issues and the older you get the worst it gets.

I've had siatica for months now, sometimes it's really bad, other times just annoying, just don't over do it, pace yourself and get plenty of pain killers or
beer...🙂.....or both...🙂🙂

Stupid question nut have they indentified all this with an mri scan .

Yes I had my first one 3 years ago and another end of last year. I was having more trouble and thought it had got worse so they put me in for the second. woke up one morning and my spine had gone into a very wiggly 'S' shape. But there was no difference in the spine or disc condition on the scan and it was put down to muscle over compensation.

Now get me down as some sort of hippy holistic nut case but you could do a lot worse than find yourself a really good pilates instructor. You really want somebody who will only teach individuals or small groups if they do large classes at all i wouldnt entertain them as there is a need to do it technically correctly and you need someone watching you to make sure this happens .

I'll take that on board. Thank you. Got a gym just across from work so will pop in and make an enquiry 🙂

Would that mean I'd have to wear fluorescent spandex????

To be honest they like you to wear something fairly tight so they can see you move properley . Probably wouldnt try a gym i would look for one of holistic hippy nutcase places as you are more likely to get someone teaching small classes or individuals . You may have a pilates / yoga studio locally . Also you get some physio's say they have been and done a course , wouldnt touch them as a proper pilates instructor trains for a long time not just a weekend or two . Maybe search the pilates foundation website .

To ignore long term sciatica pain is madness. It can lead to long term nerve damage and also spinal cord damage. I got to this point and they operated and thank God they did. I have been doing intensive core excercises (pilates) for over 9 months now and yes it helps, but if you have a prolapsed disc past the point of repair then surgery is the only way.

It started when I was 18 and has gradually got worse. But luckily for me, only recall having sciatica once. The biggest problem is the stiffness and locking up. But as much as the spine is at fault, the muscles compensating don't help, so the core strength may solve half the problem but will see if I can be more persistent at my next appointment, about the surgery for the other 50%.

To be honest @Plan Tec Tiling , been following your issues and yours actually sounds more severe. Yet you're still working which gives me reason to be a little more hopeful. Hats off to ya. I just can't risk quitting a full time job and running into further problems a month or so into a new venture.
