Help, please! What are we doing wrong..

Hi everyone,
I lifted a tile today to check and it was like that in the pic! What are we doing wrong?! We slid them into place and tapped them.

Is that the back of the tile or the substrate?
Use a deeper trowel and do both surfaces.
Better to use a bagged adhesive rather than tubbed.
Don’t allow the adhesive to skim over before pushing the tile into place.

That's the substrate. It is a 12 mm trowel...we got a 15 mm but the adhesive it took for only one tile was crazy.
It is bagged adhesive and we are back butter also.
Sorry john what you mean with skim over..we are very very newbie!:seenoevil:
Thanks a mill for your help!

Are you using rapid set or standard?
If your using rapid set you only have 10-15mins of pot life before it starts to skim over ( setting ) .

ohno, it's standard🙂
Ah thanks for clarify Andy. Yes we put the tile as soon as I finish troweling, and we go one tile at a time.
What can happen if there are more like that one? Would they break easily??
Thanks mil Andy:blush:

Looks to me as if it's simply not been bedded in correctly. Those lines will spread and merge if you slide the tile around as you position it. Push, pull and twist slightly as you push it in position, then lift one up and see the difference...

Chris it's 4/1 in weight and I measured them with a kitchen scale🙄...the measures are ok, though I feel it looks thicker than all the videos I saw in YouTube. The angle at 45 degree and going slow to make sure it stay at the same position.

Mark I will do that today and check back again.

Thanks a million guys, it get much easier with your help 🙂

Really? I don't know why that can be, the consistency and 45 degrees are there..but i'll double check today.
Thanks for mention it :relaxed:

This one Lee, the one they have at the shop.View attachment 97957
That is actually a very good adhesive and recently it’s formula has been upgraded to S1.
If sufficient notch size has been used (in this case if it appears that it is as you have 25ish ribs across a 600 tile) then poor coverage issues normally arise from an uneven substrate (which I’m assuming it’s not) but sometimes the tiles themselves may be ‘dished’.
The adhesive in your picture doesn’t appear to me to be skinned as it still appears wet. Try back skimming the tile in the same direction as the floor with a 4 or 6mm notched trowel also.

Thanks a mil Lee:blush:
One thing, if I add say a 4 mm notched more adhesive would the lipage be too noticeable with the one that are already laid? Is there anyway to overcome that?
